How the Eli Young Band Stays Grounded As It Takes Off

The Eli Young Band is by now a household name, at least in homes across North Texas, where three of its four members still reside, and other households whose speakers resonate with the country.

With every single released by the quartet, formed in Denton in 2000 and led by singer Mike Eli and guitarist James Young lead the band name becomes more common in the playlists of the nation.

With the release of his latest effort, stain, something - to - all 10,000 Towns, more prominent in the A -List of country music place seems inevitable.

It's been a long road since 2002, with their self-titled debut. By level of 2005 and Live at the Jolly Fox , the group had become sufficiently popular in North Texas to fill House of Blues in Dallas , among other rooms which dwarf most dives college -

City that make most the Texas Country touring circuit . With the release of their debut album in 2008 Universal South, Jet Black and Jealous Eli Young Band became the most commercially successful Tex- port into the mainstream in several years, dating back to when Jack Ingram and Pat Green appeared in the top 10 of the Billboard charts for a short time.

With it’s "Always the Love Songs” just hit it big on the radio and on different channels video of country music, the table was set for a much larger feel.

That was in 2011, with " Crazy Girl”, the Liz Rose single - letter which reached number one on the Billboard chart and became one double platinum in the United States, winning the prize of the Academy of Country Music "Song of the Year. "

The band was nominated for Best Vocal Group with Zac Brown band, Rascall Flatts and other stadium -packing companies. Praise and work have kept flowing since.

Last year, the group played at the stadium tour Kenney Chesney, and is currently on tour with Darius Rucker, joining Rucker on stage every night for one or two songs. And last year ended with a bang - Ballpark in size, when it is estimated that 18,000 fans showed up for the first event - only concert to be held in the grounds of the home of the Texas Rangers. It “was a vision of where we can take this," says Eli.

"Growing up in a big tour where we title is definitely the goal," says Eli, a fairly new father. "We played with great rooms before, because we will book our own shows across the country when we have a break in a tour that we are supporting.

Hopefully in 2015, we can do a big tour of our own, but that will depend on the success of the new record. Fortunately , we've had a couple of good songs on the radio make [ the new single, " Dust" is ready for the top 40 only a few weeks after being released to DJs across the country ] ,

so this could be an opportunity for us to release several singles on the radio which you registered . 'll be interesting to see how this registry changes our career. "

They are intimately aware of the pitfalls of fame country music. Texas Country artist Josh Abbott, who performed with EYB at the Ballpark in Arlington, recently took to Twitter to clarify with fans on the recent bad decisions ,

like infidelity , and apologize for letting fame and the temptations of life on the road get the best of him. So it's understandable that a band goes from playing the smelliest, shorter dives Denton to entertain 80,000 people at Cowboys Stadium can also experience the temptation that comes paired with celebrity. But Eli seems to have a firm idea of what is at stake as their star rises.

"It can be difficult to make the right decisions when life is lived on the road," he says. "For us as a band, which has not been the case?

Was easy to make the right decisions. Every one of us is married and both Jon and I have little ones at home, too. 've Got a beautiful wife and I cannot imagine a scenario in which I would make a choice to put all that at risk.

Definitely understand how difficult decisions for bands and musicians on the road are presented, however, but not all bands make the same decisions and live the same wild lives. "

Eli tries to bring his family on the road with him as often as you can, but caring for a child can be difficult for even the most sumptuous of tour buses. But the unexpected friendship with the band members beat-making , boating group Little Big Town,

who regularly have family in tow when rotated , have helped to understand that they can actually be the men of the family happy and warriors the way of success , too.

"The reality of this work, and the worst part of this job is that you often have to leave his family at home," says Eli. “Finding balance is important, but it's hard.

Sometimes I think the whole question if it's worth the time away from our families to live our dreams of playing music for a living , and that is why we have worked hard to find the right balance in life outside the home, and be home as much as we can. "

That will only be more difficult in the coming years, with years of tough decisions, bad performances and broken dreams finally paying off for the group.

As complicated as life can certainly reach them as they continue to escalate, Eli offers deeply simplistic philosophy grounded to ensure it does its part to keep it going in the right direction.

"For me, I do not do anything I did not want my mom to find out about,” he says. “That’s not a bad government, and that keeps me honest.”
